How is the Combat Sidestroke used in the various Special Operation Dive Schools?

I read that for the Pararescue selection and training pipeline, the only time I will have to use the Sidestroke is during the Dive School, in which I was told to continue training in freestyle.and finning techniques (though I don't know how to fin with one arm leading).
